The
new 60,000 seater Arsenal Football Stadium, at Ashburton Grove,
in north London, is an extremely prestigious development. It incorporates
many striking design features, but the one that stands out, literally
above all the others, is the proposed undulating roof canopy suspended
in an ellipse over the stands. It is a complex roofing structure
and will be a demanding project for
the appointed contractor. As you would expect, the companies competing
for the tender are all able to boast an excellent pedigree, but
are they also able to demonstrate this effectively in their bid
documentation?
Coverite, one of the largest and most experienced roofing and
cladding contractors in the UK, have already taken the decision
to use outside help in this area, appointing The Creative Department
to handle all of their bid and presentation activity. It started
with a completely unrelated project, when the agency were commissioned
to revamp their corporate identity (add link). As we began to
work closely together and the relationship developed, they began
to realise just how involved we are in producing all types of
client presentations (New Business / Tenders / CPD / Events).
As a result, we were asked to handle a number of presentation
related projects, one of them being the Arsenal Stadium bid.
Authoritative, informative and professionally designed
The
initial tender bid document was supplied to us in conventional
binder format, filled with photocopied material. It was our job
to convert this into an authoritative, informative and aesthetically
pleasing A4 presentation document. In addition, there was a requirement
for an A3 'Design Solutions' book, in the same style, to feature
CAD drawings and 3D renderings.
(Final cover design)
The first step was to present a variety of mock outer folder and
inside section styles for the client to choose from. Our recommendation
for the structure of the main bid document was to use colour tabbing
for each main section, there being seven sections in all. The
contents page and each
of the seven dividers were designed in the same style as the main
cover, featuring dramatic images from past projects.
Templates
were created for both the A4 and A3 documents, using Quark, with
Coverite providing A3 images and CAD drawings to be dropped into
the templates for the Design Solutions book.
Five
copies of each tender bid document were then digitally printed,
drilled and bound using silver coil wires. Overall, the main tender
bid document ran to some 100 pages, consisting of:
Pricing Schedule (20 pages)
Bid Conditions ( 4 pages)
Method Statement (10 pages)
Programme (Project schedule in tabular form)
Management
Structure (Introductory chart, plus 6 pages)
Quality
Plan (36 pages)
Company
Profile (30 pages)
