| "Just
how difficult is it to update and add further material to
an existing seminar without a complete rewrite" |
|
Many
organizations coming new to the business of seminar presentation
for the RIBA CPD Providers Network understandably have a number
of concerns about their session. Typically, will the material
meet the stringent RIBA approval requirements, do we have the
resources to present the seminar in a lucid, professional manner
on a consistent basis, is our support material of a suitable standard
for distribution to a professional audience and just how difficult
is it to update and add further material to an existing seminar
without a complete rewrite. The Creative Department has a great
deal of experience in all of these areas, but the one particular
element that seems to cause a disproportionate amount of concern
is the updating and addition of new material to an existing seminar.
Depending on the nature of the session this may not be a frequent
occurrence for some companies, but for others it is essential
and must be addressed during the original scripting and seminar
structuring.
Structured in discrete sections
A
good example of this is provided by Radmat Building Products,
who have pioneered the use of Permaquik in the UK. Permaquik is
a liquid applied, flat - roof waterproofing system, originally
developed in Canada to withstand the harshest of conditions. The
two - coat system with polyester reinforcement allows easy application,
offers a positive bond to the substrate and is seamless, with
monolithic laps between the old and new application. The company
claims that the product is 'tough enough to treat every roofing
and waterproofing situation' - and the Radmat seminar sets out
to explore as many of these situations as possible for the specifier
and designer audience. This involves a detailed look at a whole
variety of roof types and construction methods, along with key
issues such as projections, outlets, and upstands. Having established
themselves as a premium grade solution to flat roof waterproofing,
Radmat now have an increasing number of prestigious applications
available for inclusion in their seminar - some of the most recent
being Canary Wharf Towers, City Hall and aspects of the GLA building
at Tower Bridge.
From
the initial brief, the Radmat requirement was always to ensure
topicality, requiring frequent updating and revision to the case
study section of the seminar. Consequently, the session was structured
in discrete sections to allow new project material to be seamlessly
dropped in at any time, without affecting the other elements of
the presentation.
